I have my own access points and a gigabit brocade fls648 switch I’ll be using. The router doesn’t need to do switching or wireless. If it wasn’t for Hurricane Ike I’d have a superior network budget :P. My budget is around $100-$150 but I can stretch higher, as I’ll be selling the edgerouter-lite. It’s crucial to me that the unit provides gigabit speeds. I might use the SFP port to bypass ISP's ONT with a GPON module. I read on here people saying Mikrotik’s Hex is powerful, but will it truly handle 1Gbps sustained transfers? I torrent Linux ISO’s and download software for work as well as upload YouTube videos on occasion. Looks like Mikrotik would give the full control of the device plus advanced routing features, and since I want to run Ethernet as much as possible, I was debating between RB3011 or RB4011. As a result I switched her to a e3-1270 4U running pfsense, but I’d rather not have to transport or power such a large noisy server again.įrankly I wasn’t very satisfied with pfsense (DNS would die often and randomly, and OpenVPN client was buggy) for my previous apartment and used vyos. Problem is my sisters Edgerouter-Lite struggles to get more than 300mbps on AT&T Fiber. Hello I’m moving to Chattanooga TN, will be getting EPB fiber 1Gbps up and down.
